From OB to Onesies: My Baby Prep in a Brand-New City

When expecting a baby, there’s so much anxiety in the planning and prepping. Even though I already did it once, there was still a level of stress on how the delivery would go, how my toddler would react, etc. So imagine how I felt when I found out we’d be moving in my third trimester and I’d need to find a new OB and hospital to deliver at.

Thankfully the Charlotte area is full of big health groups with excellent providers - but that can also be overwhelming to start with. So, I asked my current OB if she had any recommendations and she connected me with a friend who lived in the area. I also had a family member connect me with a friend’s daughter who is a NICU nurse. I owe it to my support system for referring me to an amazing pediatrician and OB for me and my babies!

When you’re in a similar situation, don’t be afraid to ask credible sources from family & friends, and trust your instinct. A happy & healthy mama = a healthy baby!

As for the prepping part, here’s what I packed for the hospital:

Funny enough, I had it listed out weeks in advance but never got around to it (baby #2) until the night before my water broke. It’s like I had this feeling it was going to happen. My husband didn’t have his bag ready though, but thankfully I was able to verbally run through all the lists with him while having contractions at 3am so the car was packed & ready to go - ha!

There are certain things I packed the first time around that I absolutely didn’t need going into it this time - for example, you or the baby really don’t wear a lot of clothes so don’t stress about that part. The hospital also provides so much, so ask your doctor before panicking. Good luck mamas!
